Cathy Collison grew up in a reading family with bookshelves overflowing with everything from Jane Austen to E. B. White, along with plenty of newspapers and magazines. She got hooked on journalism when as a Girl Scout, she had an assignment for the elementary school newspaper, and there was no turning back.
Being a reporter and editor seemed a perfect fit for her natural curiosity and love of reading and writing, eventually landing her at the Detroit Free Press after starting at the Daily Herald in suburban Chicago. While there, she was excited to launch a news magazine for young readers. In the meantime, she and her husband raised their own two young readers, now young adults. Since leaving the Free Press, Cathy continues to write for young readers, and, of course, read! She is in two book clubs, and when not reading and writing, you can find her volunteering at the local zoo! Cathy is the author of a dozen books, all but one co-authored with good friend and writing partner, Janis. Cathy is repped by Jacqui Lipton.
Fun Fact: When Michigan was getting film credits, Cathy added to her freelance income by being an extra in TV or movies, including “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice”!
