Leslie Stall Widener
Leslie Stall Widener, a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, grew up in Tulsa and was a regular at her neighborhood library and the summertime bookmobile, although she had a problem with the limited number of books she was allowed to take home.
Having an artistic mother meant that art was a big part of her childhood and she decided early in life that she wanted to be a children’s book illustrator. Only in the last decade did she start writing seriously and begin to learn as much as possible about the craft of writing.
She and her husband have three grown children and live in a 110-year-old farmhouse in North Texas. They frequently make getaway trips to her family’s Oklahoma homeplace, her maternal grandmother’s original Choctaw land allotment. Leslie is repped by Kelly Dyksterhouse.
Fun Fact: Leslie’s high school sport was synchronized swimming, where she had to hold her breath underwater as part of a human chain for nearly a minute and sew her own show costumes.
